Since 1961, The Sunland Tujunga Lions Club has presented one of the longest running, largest non-profit festival in Los Angeles. While raising money for 70+ community and non-profit organizations and activities, the Festival provides three days of fun and FREE, all-you-can-eat watermelon. Watch this page and be the first to see what the events and attractions will be presented this year. A very brief preview has been provided below. Be sure to check out the rest of our website. We welcome all of you to this year’s 2014 Watermelon Festival at Santa Anita Park.

Celebrity Chef, Joseph Poon

Celebrity Chef Joseph Poon will do caving demonstration on Saturday and Sunday. His appearances last year were a huge hit with festival goers in the Watermelon Pavilion. His upbeat personality, along with his easy carving techniques, for the everyday cook, won the hearts of the crowd. National Watermelon Queen, Brandi Harrison

The 2014 National Watermelon Queen, Brandi Harrison, will be on hand to announce the 53rd Watermelon Festival’s Royal Court on the Main Stage, and in the Watermelon Pavilion to give selection tips, nutritional information and discuss the economical value of watermelon. The twenty three year old Promotion Ambassador for the National Watermelon Association is a graduate of Gulf Coast University and holds degrees in Communications and Public Relations.

 

Watermelon Judges – Saturday, July 19 at 5:00pm

Jim Morey’s carvings have been seen on top rated television shows, but his face remains a mystery. Now you can meet the man up close and personal, the man behind the carvings that have been featured on Fuel TV, Hollywood Babble-On with Kevin Smith & Ralph Garmon, and Fox’s Sunday NFL Pre-game Football show with Michael Strahan. See him live…carving incredible images, be a judge for the Watermelon Competition…and you can also have a chance to take home one of his carvings as a limited edition souvenir! Saturday only at 2:00pm and 4:00pm!

Hiep Thi Le is the co-owner of Le Cellier Wine Bar in Marina Del Rey. The gastro beer and wine bar features “Terroir” driven wine and microbrewery beers, paired with contemporary French Vietnamese small bite platters. She has been a contestant on the television show “Chopped” and was also one of the stars of Oliver Stone’s “Heaven and Earth.”

Lisa Loring Judges Watermelon Carving Competition at 5:00pm. Lisa Loring is well remembered for portraying ‘Wednesday’ on the original television series “The Addams Family.” She also appeared in the television soap opera, “As the World Turns.” An avid cook and great fan of watermelon she continues to travel the country doing personal appearances at trade shows in support of the fiftieth anniversary of one of her most famous roles.
