The first annual Watermelon Carving Competition took place on Saturday, July 19 at 5pm. Judges tallied the votes in three categories Most Fun or Whimsical, Most Intricate or Elaborate and Most Humorous and then announced an overall winner.
Andrea Zamora with her mile high watermelon sculpture won Most Intricate or Elaborate.
Sabdra Cardenas won Most Fun or Whimsical with her Teapot and tea cup set and was the overall winner.
Blanca Callejas won for Most Humorous.
The judging panel included Celebrity Chef Joseph Poon of Philadelphia, Chef Hiep Thi Le of Le Cellier Wine Bar in Marina Del Rey and Carver Jim Morey of VIP Carving located in Huntington Beach.
